Australia-first ‘eat now, pay later’ app announces $100K commitment to OzHarvest

October 2021

Payo, Australia’s first ‘buy now, pay later’ app exclusive for the hospitality industry, is excited to announce its partnership with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.

As an ‘Awesome Partner’, payo has committed to donating $100,000 over 12 months, enabling OzHarvest to deliver an additional 200,000 meals to those in need. These additional meals will also divert 100,000 kilograms of food from going into landfills and will prevent 660,000 kilograms of greenhouse emissions by avoiding food waste.

There has never been a greater need for food rescue services with more people turning to food relief for the first time, a direct result of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions over the past 18 months.

Co-Founder and CEO of payo, Taf Chiwanza, said, “We’re humbled to partner with OzHarvest in a bid to help reduce food waste and nourish individuals, families and communities in need. At payo, our vision is to connect the world through food. We really do believe that food brings people together and we’re on a mission to make a difference; not just by upgrading dining experiences, but by levelling up the lives of those around us.

“Our app, payo, was born from the belief that everyone deserves a seat at the table. This sentiment couldn’t be truer when it comes to our partnership with OzHarvest as we want to make sure everyone has access to nourishing and delicious meals. We feel very passionate about supporting the incredible efforts of OzHarvest to help improve the lives of Australians who need it most.”

Payo users can also make a positive difference when processing an order payment at the ‘checkout’. Via the app, customers now have the option to donate $1 to OzHarvest which is enough to provide two meals to people in need.

OzHarvest Founder and CEO, Ronni Kahn, said, “We are thrilled to have payo join the OzHarvest family as an ‘Awesome Partner’. We love working with like-minded partners who are passionate about the cause and are invaluable to help keep our wheels turning and ‘Nourish our Country’.”

With an appetite for generosity, the payo team will be rolling up their sleeves and joining OzHarvest Chefs in Melbourne for the Cooking for a Cause session. The session will give payo the opportunity to see firsthand, how rescued food is turned into delicious, nourishing meals for people in need while learning how to reduce food waste.

Payo recognises that the food and hospitality industries have been heavily hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and are dedicated to supporting impacted individuals and businesses where possible.

Available in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast, payo allows diners to eat now, pay later, by splitting the bill into four, equal and easy interest-free instalments.

As we see Melburnians and Sydney-siders excitedly emerge from lockdowns, there has never been a more important time to support the restaurant industry and support organisations such as OzHarvest.
