Payo celebrates its first birthday

Australian technology brand and payments platform, payo is celebrating its first birthday as the world’s first buy now, pay later platform exclusive to the hospitality industry. Since its soft launch into Brisbane in March 2021, payo has also launched across Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast, delivering much-needed foot traffic into the recovering restaurant industry

In 12 short months, payo has had exponential growth with the number of user transactions growing on average 162% month on month, with customers using the platform an average of two times per week. The most popular category on payo is casual dining and customers save an average of 15% per order thanks to the discounts and incentives on offer. Venues are seeing positive impact from the introduction of the service, with an average increase of 50% in average order value when customers purchase through payo.

Alongside being Australia’s first “eat now, pay later” app, payo has released multiple milestones from offering exclusive user-only deals and incentives to pioneering Australia’s first self-checkout for dine-in patrons, labelled, payo checkout to recover 30% of waitstaffs’ time that would otherwise be spent on settling bill payments.

As if there wasn’t enough to celebrate, all users will be gifted $10 in payo credit this week so they can enjoy something on payo at partner venues to celebrate its birthday!

Of its successes, payo’s CEO and Co-Founder, Taf Chiwanza notes his appreciation and excitement for the future. “Payo has been whole-heartedly welcomed by Australian hospitality venues and has achieved incredible results for our vendors. We’ve seen incredible growth with our customer base, and we are constantly analysing data and feedback as a main consideration for decision making.”

“I am very excited to see our next chapter of growth as the popularity of BNPL continues to rise in hospitality, and as more venues opt in to payo checkout because of the industry challenges it’s solving. This will quickly escalate our expansion into other cities.”
